The FTDI Virtual Com Port drivers are used by the Axeze Programming Reader (APR) and the KEP-USB-M Point of Sale reader. It is quite difficult to update these drivers and so the people at Hondata have come up with a utility to erase all signs of the FTDI drivers so that Windows can load the new drivers. If the procedure below is not followed, successfully updating the FTDI drivers will be very difficult.
Obtain a copy of the latest version of the “FTDI Clean Utility”. It is V 1.0 at the time of writing this update. The file name is FTClean.exe. It is part of a suite of programs used by Hondata to update one of their devices. Do not use the other utilities unless you have a specific requirement to do so. Run the FTDI Clean Utility and insure the VID is set to FTDI (default).

After ensuring all FTDI devices are unplugged, select Clean System to remove all drivers and registry entries for FTDI devices.
Locate a copy of the latest driver for the FTDI Virtual Com Port. At the time of writing (August 2009) the latest drivers for Axeze USB products is contained in the file “CDM 2.04.16 WHQL Certified.zip”. Extract the files to any suitable folder. A good folder to use would be in the “C:\Program Files\Axeze\Network Management Suite (NMS)\VCP Drivers” where it can be readily found.
Plug in a KEP-USB-M or APR-01 and windows should indicate that a new device has been found and it will begin installing the drivers. When you get offered a choice of selecting the correct the driver take it and point Windows to the folder containing the latest drivers.
A look at Device Manager should show a “USB Serial Converter” under Universal Serial Bus controllers and a new “USB Serial Port (COMXX)” under Ports (COM & LPT).

A look at the driver details for the USB serial port should show the new driver details a below.
